CAROLYN JAGODITS - The CAROLYN JAGODITS MEMORIAL AWARD is dedicated to her memory. Lillies by Carolyn Jagodits

CAROLYN JAGODITS

Animals in general and her dogs in particular were Carolyn’s joy and she reflected her dedication through various related organizations. She was a talented illustrator, a very successful commercial artist and an award-winning fine artist accomplished in a variety of media. She received special recognition for her work at the 1984 National Artists Seminar in Chicago and was a finalist in the 1990 Artists Magazine Wildlife Competition. Her versatility and eye for detail regularly drew such comments as “marvelous color sense”, “striking representation of light”, “Excellent”, and “wonderful handling of the medium”. From Fox Squirrels to Polar Bears – all appeared to be Carolyn’s personal friends.

Carolyn became a member of Indiana Wildlife Artists in 1985. She was Vice-President in 1987, then succeeded to the Presidency. She produced artwork for two sets of the IWA notecards, designed the poster and invitations for the 1990 Annual Exhibit at Indianapolis and remained an active, contributing member until Parkinson’s disease began to take a toll. Her devotion and commitment to animals and art became even more clear after her death through gifts that she gave in her will to organizations that cared about both. We are grateful for her generosity and the benefit it can provide for young artists and the future of IWA.

Carolyn’s legacy includes delightful artwork that continues to be enjoyed by people who are fortunate to live with it every day. She helped people everywhere to see and know the wonder of nature. The world will be better for her having been here.
